We will be looking at some well-known success stories as well as brand new businesses that are still testing their offering. Today our focus falls on the online fund-raising company RunLastMan.
RunLastMan’s mission is to gamify fundraising and make sports prediction competitions an easy form of fundraising for clubs, teams and charities.
Clubs and charities are struggling more than ever to raise funds and are constantly seeking new fun and low risk ways of generating money that don’t take days and days to run. For people looking for a quick fundraising idea, RunLastMan allows anyone to run a live sports prediction game on the RunLastMan website for their club, team or charity. The benefit for the organiser is that all games are run with zero risk and 10-15 hours saved collecting cash, sending emails and managing the team picks and scores. RunLastMan takes 10% of the pot raised for hosting the game and taking the payments.
RunLastMan as a company is a little over a year old, with the idea trucking along for 6 months before that. Co-founders and friends Graham and Dan have been strutting their stuff on the soccer and GAA pitches of their respective clubs since they were kids. That’s a good 20 years’ experience of never-ending table quizzes, poker nights and awards ceremonies.
Sick of hearing their club secretaries harp on about the pains of running fundraisers, and the last man standing in particular, Graham and Dan decided to research how they could make life easier for people running sports prediction games by removing all of the boring, time-consuming admin and taking all of the payments online. 4 months, 87 surveys, a new co-founder (Ronan) and a feasibility grant later the idea was deemed solid enough to start a company and get the development of their website underway.
Something rare about RunLastMan is that every part of it is Irish with all the design and development, and every team member being either Irish or done in Ireland.
Next up for the company is to launch a World Cup last man standing, the introduction of new sports to the site, as well as a brand new design for the website that will be much more focused on mobile with an app also due out before the end of the year. At the same time as this, RunLastMan plan on increasing their customer base by adding the UK to their list of territories. Moving into the UK is vital to grow the company, which the guys hope to kick off in the summer before the new Premier League season.
